Vitamin D

With this article, I am venturing onto thin ice. A customer had already mentioned vitamin D in the entry on "Aspirin". Unfortunately, back in 2022 I did not give the subject the respect it deserved. I have been looking into it for the past nine months and, as far as I can tell, the daily dose of 800 IU recommended by the German Nutrition Society is nowhere near sufficient. The confusion begins with the fact that two different units of measurement are used: ng/ml and nmol/l. Unfortunately, there is a conversion factor of 2.5 between them.
I believe that today, even in summer, we no longer produce enough vitamin D through sun exposure. We are hardly ever outdoors and, when we are, we use sun protection factor 50. Many illnesses can be prevented when the vitamin D level in the blood is right. The website of the German Health Association provides an introduction to the subject.
